Some of my Favorite Minimal Gold Jewelry Pieces

Coming from an Indian and Pentecostal background (meaning jewelry was both not allowed and greatly valued culturally), the world of owning jewelry felt overwhelming and foreign to me. My parents are from Kerala, India, and gold is sorta a huge deal there. When my grandmother left her Mar Thoma Christian background to become Pentecostal, she took off her bangles and stored them in a safe. In the land of 22k gold, jewelry is literally an investment and a form of currency holding so much value that I would see how even the poorest families would make sure they give a gold necklace to their daughters.

With all that being said, once I decided to pierce my ears and openly wear jewelry, (I have a whole video on this btw!) I was so glad that western fashion seemed to move past the trend of huge bauble necklaces and overly noticeable pieces to minimal, elegant, and understated pieces. I was also so happy to invest in the travel jewelry case above from Mejuri. This is another similar design, and here is a more affordable option. The Mejuri option is stunning and excellent quality but is often out of stock.

I love the look of a simple gold ring and when COVID first hit, I wanted to make an effort to support smaller businesses. Here is one creator who sells rings on Etsy. I also really love the pricepoint and quality Madewell offers. I own one stack of their gold rings. Here is a similar set, and here is another option. There is something about wearing a few rings that make me feel so put together, maybe it is the extra intention and effort that I have put towards a small detail of how I am presenting myself to others.

For a while I was terrified of wearing anything larger than a basic stud. Does anyone else often flash back to random moments form childhood? I was once told by an elementary school classmates that it was okay that I wasn’t allowed to wear jewelry since my earlobes were too big anyway.

The irony is that the editor hoops from Mejuri actually look way better on me than basic studs do and there is something so sophisticated about a piece like this. It both blends in and sticks out at the same time. This is a more expensive option from an Etsy creator. I’m learning that pricing for jewelry really varies based on if you want a solid gold vs. a gold plated piece. Here is another more affordable bold option.

Ultimately, I view jewelry as an extension of my own personal style and in an attempt to avoid owning too many pieces, I’ve actually made a promise to myself to try to avoid owning more pieces than what I can fit in this tiny organizer. Maybe one day I’ll decide to buy an entire jewelry box but for now, this travel organizer will suffice.

What are your favorite places to buy jewelry pieces from? Do you have any brand recommendations for me?
