A First Look at Olive & June’s Winter 2020 Colors

Despite how bummed I am that Fall is almost over (PSL latte lovers, unite!), I could not get over how excited I was for Olive and June’s new winter shades. Dedicated readers of this blog already know how much I loved their fall colors, and after creating a blog post showcasing all those shades, I was so honored to have Olive and June reach out to me to send me their Winter shades.

As always, I like to have a little disclaimer. Be wise with how you spend your coin! Please don’t feel the need to buy a whole new set of colors for every season. But if a color appeals to you and you have room in your budget, go for it! Or if you really love all these colors and have the financial means to afford the set, go for it. It’s always nice to get a little treat in the mail to pamper yourself with, but not at the cost of financial freedom. Okay, end rant.

Also, I have a promo code for ya’ll! For $10 off your first purchase of $50+ of Olive and June use this link (fbuy.me/v/ninarachelthomas). This gives me a free bottle of nail polish! If you are curious about the quality of these nail polishes overall, you watch this earlier video review

As many of you are already aware, Olive and June features a variety of skin shades when they market colors. This shouldn’t be so groundbreaking, but I rarely see nail brands do this.  Despite the fact that their colors are shown on different shades, I’m personally always skeptical to buy shades outside of my ‘comfort zone’. (I have mild PTSD from the nail technician who told me the only colors that I should wear are navy and red and that a baby pink simply did not look nice. ?) That is why I view this blog as my own public service for the brown girls of the world. Let’s see how these shades look on a complexion like me own. Spoiler alert: They looked amazing and I was honestly shocked. I would have never chosen some of these colors on their own but now I’m so glad to have them in my nail arsenal!

‘Besties’
I LOVE this color. I’ve personally never tried anything like it- but I thought it had a clean/flattering look. It reminds me of have ‘clean’ navy normally looks like on me.
‘OMG’
I really loved how this color felt a little different than the typical ‘navy shade’.
‘Obsessed’
I’m not sure how often I’d reach for this personally, it us SUPER bright. But the color does look nice against my skin shade.
‘Yes please’
This is such a classic shade. You probably even own one like this. But it never hurst to have another nice/classic red color.
‘Nalfie Time’
My mom, surprisingly, loved this shade. It’s a bit bold/bright for me but again, I like how it looks.
‘XOXO’
Very similar to the shade above. I prefer the ‘Naflie time’ because it’s closer to red rather than a ‘hot pink’.
‘Exclamation Point’
These shimmers are stunning but are a little harder to put on. It took a little more effort to apply and remove, but the quality is much better than other glitter shades I’ve used before. In the past, it has been IMPOSSIBLE to get glitter shades off or the glitter wouldn’t really look like a true glitter. The glitter would be very ‘fine’ or even homogenous looking and this glitter shades actually looks like there are little specks of glitter inside.
‘Obvi’
Again, stunning! I rushed to apply it but you could get a much more ‘opaque’ look if you took your tine with the glitter.
Here is my finished manicure for the week! Let’s see how it stands the test of time. The glitter did get on my fingers when I tried to remove it but by the next day, the remaining residue was gone.

What are your thoughts on these colors? Which do you love or hate? Watch out for a new video on my YouTube channel showcasing these same colors. I also plan to post next week with an update on how this manicure holds up after a few dates. (Currently on day 2 as I write this!)

Love always,

EDIT: Here’s how the nails looked like after 5 days! The glitter was actually SO hard to remove, use it carefully.
